Digestive
Can you imagine having twenty-two feet of tubing all curled up inside your lower body? Twenty-two feet is about as tall as a two-story building. That is also how long your small intestine is.
The small intestine is a major organ of the digestive system. It is a tube about one and a half inches around. This organ has the job of breaking down the food you have eaten. Then, your body can gather any part that is useful to the cells. Chemicals from the pancreas, gall bladder, and liver are sent to the small intestine. These chemicals help break down food into its usable parts. It takes about four hours for the small intestine to finish its work. Every time you eat, your small intestine is busy getting the food ready for use by your body cells.
